A lot of first-time visitors assume Panama City Beach and 30A are basically interchangeable because they’re both on Florida’s Gulf Coast.
They’re not.
They’re close enough that people frequently fly into Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport and drive straight to 30A, but the vacation experience feels completely different depending on which one you choose.
Panama City Beach is larger, busier, and far more traditional beach tourism. Think high-rise condos, chain restaurants, larger resorts, amusement attractions, and more nightlife.
30A feels far more neighborhood-driven with boutique beach towns, bike paths, independent restaurants, and a generally quieter atmosphere.
And because 30A stretches across multiple towns, the actual drive time depends on where you’re staying.
Actual Drive Times From Panama City Beach to 30A
If you’re staying in western Panama City Beach near Laguna Beach, you’re even closer to 30A.

Why the Drive Feels Easier Than Destin
One thing visitors notice quickly is that driving from Panama City Beach to eastern 30A often feels easier than driving from Destin.
That’s because Rosemary Beach, Alys Beach, and Inlet Beach sit much closer to Panama City Beach.
This is why many visitors staying in PCB will do dinner nights in eastern 30A.
But if you’re planning daily trips all the way to Seaside or Grayton Beach, the drive can start feeling repetitive.

Can You Visit Both?
Absolutely.
Many visitors staying on eastern 30A make quick trips into Panama City Beach for stores like Pier Park, airport access, or activities.
Many PCB visitors spend a day shopping and dining in Rosemary Beach or Alys Beach.
That’s very manageable.
What usually doesn’t work well is booking a PCB hotel and trying to spend every single day deep into western 30A.
That’s when the drive starts feeling much longer than it looks on a map.
